Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

Instrument cluster voltage supply for indicators and warning lights, checking with VAG 1598 test box

Notes:

- Use digital multi-meter Fluke 83, VAG 1527 voltage tester; VAG 1598 test box and VAG 1598/8 adapter harness for the following tests.

- Instrument cluster troubleshooting -> Electri Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations binder

- Remove instrument cluster





- Disconnect instrument cluster 28-pin harness connector 1-128-

- Connect VAG 1598/8 adapter harness between instrument cluster and wiring harness connector (connectors must engage audibly).

- Connect VAG 1598 Test Box to adapter harness VAG 1598/8.

3 - Fluke 83 digital multimeter (different multirr shown)

4 - VAG 1598/8 adapter harness

5 - Instrument cluster 28-pin harness connector T28-

Test requirements

- Battery positive voltage (B+) OK

- Fuse(s) OK (-> wiring diagram)

- Fluke 83digital multimeter set to volt range

Notes:

- If specified values are not obtained, check wiring harness according to wiring diagram.

- If the specified values are obtained in test steps 1 and 2, and instrument cluster still malfunctions, replace instrument cluster

- If the specified values are obtained in test steps 3 through 9, check corresponding bulb. If the bulb checks OK, replace instrument cluster.
