Shift Mechanism, Disassembling And Assembling

Note:
^ Lubricate mounting points and contact surfaces with grease Part No. G 052 142 A2.

1. Selector lever handle
^ Push sleeve -item 2- down and pull handle off upward.
2. Sleeve
^ Locks selector lever handle
^ Prevents selector lever handle from being pulled off
3. Cover
^ With selector indicator
^ Snaps into bracket -7-
4. Cover strip
^ Insert in bracket-7-
5. Selector lever position display
^ Printed circuit for selector lever position display (illumination) is held in position by clips
^ Contacts for selector lever position face to selector lever contact springs -27-
^ Secure connector with retainer -6- to frame -7-
^ Insert cable strip and wiring to connector in mountings on frame
^ Connector, connecting and disconnecting.
6. Retainer
^ Clip push-in housing into frame -7-
7. Bracket
^ Carefully pry off at corners
^ Push in cover strip -4-
^ Carefully position printed circuits and wiring -5-
^ When installing be careful not to damage contact springs -27- for selector lever position display
8. Bolt
^ 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.)
^ Positioning spring -12- and plate -11-to bracket
9. Washer
10. Locking segment
^ Place on centering elements of selector lever housing -16-
11. Plate
12. Spring with roller, locating
^ Locates in detent in selector lever -B-
13. Selector lever
^ With pull rod, spring, detent, contact spring for selector lever position and locking cable release

^ Place selector lever in "P" to loosen and tighten

^ Solenoid to selector lever housing
32. Shift lock solenoid -N110-
^ Removing and installing. Refer to Shift Interlock; Shift Interlock Solenoid; Service and Repair; Removing and Installing.
^ Can be checked via 0131D function 08, read measuring value block.
^ Remove and install only with selector lever in position "1".
^ Closely monitor spring and locking pin when removing
^ Remove together with locking pin and spring, while moving selector lever slightly back and forth
^ Route wiring with sufficient clearance to selector lever
33. Cable tie
^ Wiring/solenoid to selector lever housing
^ Always replace

^ 13 Nm (1O ft. lbs.)
^ Always replace

^ For ignition key removal lock
^ Do not kink
^ Removing and installing. Refer to Shift Interlock; Shift Interlock Cable; Service and Repair.
^ Adjusting refer to Shift Interlock; Shift Interlock Cable; Adjustments.
^ Ignition key removal lock, checking.
40. Circlip
^ Always replace
^ For mounting selector lever cable to selector lever housing
^ Install with angled end toward inside selector housing
41. Gasket
^ Always replace
42. Selector lever cable
^ Do not bend or kink
^ If the outer cable is damaged the selector lever cable must be replaced
^ Checking and adjusting
^ Removing and installing
^ Lightly grease ball socket and cable ends before installing
43. Lever For selector shaft
