Idle Speed: Adjustments

Idle Speed, Adaptation

In exceptional circumstances (e.g. customer complaints concerning droning noises and vibrations at idle speeds) it is OK to adjust the idle speed slightly.

Special tools and equipment
V.A.G1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable

Test requirements
- No DTCs stored in DTC memory. Refer to "Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/With Manufacturer Scan Tool/Check DTC Memory (Function 02)" Testing and Inspection
- Engine coolant temperature at least 85 °C, see display group 004, display field 3.

Test sequence
- Connect VAG1551 (VAG1552) Scan Tool (ST). Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/VAG1551/Functional Check" Testing and Inspection
- Turn on ignition and press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01. Engine must be running at idle when performing this step.

- Change specified speed in display field 2 in jumps of 10 RPM using following buttons:
- VAG1551: buttons 1 and 3
- VAG1552: buttons up arrow and down arrow

NOTE: The idle speed must not be adjusted to outside the permissible idle speed range.
