Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248-, Replacing

Special tools and equipment
- Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Removing
- Print out Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- identification and previous ECM code as follows:
- Connect Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551/1552.
- Press -0- and -1- buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine Control Module (ECM)".
- Switch ignition on.

Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 display will show Engine Control Module (ECM) identification, e.g.:

Coding XXXXX WSC XXXXX


- Print out Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- identification by pressing Scan Tool (ST) print button.
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the -Q- button.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove wiper arms and cowl panel:
- Remove connector from Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248-.




- Press securing tab -arrow- to left and pull Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- out.

Installing
- Place new Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- into retaining frame.
- Install Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- connector and lock.
- Check previous code and new Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- code, Programming and Relearning
- Check DTC memory, if necessary, repair malfunctions and erase DTC memory, Testing and Inspection
- Set readiness code.
