Rollover Valve: Testing and Inspection

Function
Airbag-equipped vehicles have a fuel crash shut-off. This is intended to reduce the risk of vehicle fire following a crash by switching off the Fuel Pump (FP) via the Fuel Pump (FP) relay.

This function also improves comfort during engine start-up. When the door is opened, the Fuel Pump (FP) is activated for 2 seconds so that pressure builds in the fuel system.

When opening fuel system:
Observe safety precautions. Service Precautions

- Check Fuel Pump (FP) relay:
See Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations.

Checking function and voltage supply

Test requirements
- Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
- Fuse No.28 OK

- Remove cover from Fuel Pump (FP)
- Operate starter briefly. Fuel pump must audibly start up.
- Switch off ignition.

If Fuel Pump (FP) does not start up:
- Remove cover in front of fuse holder.

- Remove fuse 28 from fuse holder.
- Connect VAG 1348/3A remote control to Fuel Pump (FP) and B+ at terminal 28a using VAG 1348/3-2 remote control connection.
- Operate remote control.

If Fuel Pump (FP) runs:
- Check activation of Fuel Pump (FP) relay according to wiring diagram:
See Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations.

If Fuel Pump (FP) does not run:
- Disconnect 4-pin connector from flange at Fuel Pump (FP).

- Connect VAG 1527 voltage tester to outer terminals of connector using adapter cables from VAG 1594 connector test kit.
- Operate remote control.
LED must light up.

IF LED does not light up:
- Locate and repair open circuit using wiring diagram:
See Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations.
LED lights up (voltage supply OK):

- Use ring nut spanner 3217 to remove union nut.
- Check whether electrical wires between flange and Fuel Pump (FP) are connected.

If there are no open circuits:
- Fuel Pump (FP) faulty, replace Fuel Pump (FP).
