Lubrication System Components, Removing and Installing
1. 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
2. Chain - tensioner with tensioning rail
^ 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
^ When installing, pretension spring and then install
3. Crank sprocket
^ For oil pump drive
4. Dipstick
^ Oil level must NOT be above the Max. mark!
5. Guide
^ Remove to draw oil out with bracket on lower intake manifold
6. Guide tube
7. Dowel sleeves
^ Check seating
8. O-ring
^ Always replace
9. Suction pipe
^ Clean strainer
10. Baffle plate
11. 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
^ Remove with 3185 socket or equivalent
^ Remove bolts to bell housing with 3249 hex ball socket
12. Oil pan
^ Clean sealing surface before installing
^ Install with silicone sealant D 176 404 A2
13. Seal
^ Always replace
14. Oil pan drain plug
^ 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace if leaking. See Parts Catalog for correct application. In some cases, seal and drain plug are combined; do not interchange with separate seal and drain plug.
15. Oil pump
^ 12 bar (174 psi) pressure relief
^ Before installing, ensure that both oil pump/cylinder head centering sleeves are in place
^ Replace running surfaces and/or gears are scored
16. Chain sprocket
17. 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
18. Chain
^ Mark direction of rotation before removing
19. Sealing flange
^ Check seating on guide pins
20. Seal
