Removal and Replacement
Heating and Ventiating Unit Removal and Installation
Removing:
- Drain engine coolant. Refer to Engine Mechanical, Fuel Injection and Ignition; Rep. Gr. 19; General Information.
- Remove and clamp off coolant hoses to heater core in engine compartment at bulkhead.
- Plug heater core inlet and outlet to prevent accidental spilling of coolant in interior.
- Remove instrument panel. Refer to Body Interior; Rep. Gr. 70; Removal and Installation. Instrument Panel, Removing and Installing
- Loosen instrument panel cross member. Refer to 4.7 Instrument Panel Crossmember. Instrument Panel Crossmember, Loosening/Tightening
- Disconnect all related electrical connections and control cables.
- In the engine compartment, remove the plastic cover -1- from the expansion valve.
- Open heat insulation -1- from the cuts -Arrows-, so the two fixing nuts -2- can be visible.
- Remove nuts -1- from bulkhead side (3.7 Nm).
- Remove two nuts located behind the drivers side heat shield perforated cut outs.
- Carefully pull heating and ventilation unit away from bulkhead into vehicle interior.
Installing:
- Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
NOTE:
- Heater core bulkhead seal, installation position.
- Always replace engine coolant.
Heater Core Bulkhead Seal:
- The seal between the heater core and the bulkhead has a positioning mark.
- Install seal -1- so that the notches on the seal and the base plate -2- align -3-.
