Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory, Checking And Erasing (scan Tool Functions 02 And 05)

VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable
Test procedure
NOTE:
All functions which could previously be performed with VAG1551/1552 can also be performed with the VAS5051 vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system.
- Press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idle (connecting scan tool and selecting engine electronics control module) [1][2][3]Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool
NOTE:
Only when the engine does not start:
- Operate the starter for approx. 6 seconds and then do not switch off the ignition.
- Switch printer on by pressing PRINT button (indicator lamp in button lights up).

- Operate scan tool taking into account the information on the display.
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory"function 02 and press -Q- button to confirm input.
Indicated on display (number of stored DTCs, or "No DTC recognized").

NOTE:
If no DTCs are stored:
- Press -> button.
If one or more DTCs are stored, the stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

NOTE:
If the ignition is switched off between "Check DTC Memory" and "Erase DTC Memory," DTC memory will not be erased.
If DTC memory was erased, the readiness code must be generated again. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Automatic test sequence
During test and repair work malfunctions can be recognized from other control modules (e.g. plug disconnected). Therefore DTC memory of all control modules must be checked and erased. To do this:
- Press button -0- twice to insert "Automatic Test Sequence" address word 00 and press -Q- button to confirm input.
The VAG1551 transmits all known address words one after the other. When a control module answers with its identification, the number of stored DTCs or "No DTC recognized" appears on the display. Any system malfunctions that are stored will be displayed one after the other and printed out. The VAG1551 will then transmit the next address word.

1) Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately
- Erase DTC memory and carry out test drive.
Observe the valid safety precautions during a test drive. Safety Precautions
During the test drive the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
- Coolant temperature must exceed 85 °C.
- When the temperature is reached, all operating conditions (idling, part throttle, wide open throttle, and overrun) must be attained several times.
- At wide open throttle engine speed must exceed 3500 RPM.
- Again, check DTC memory of all control modules using "Automatic Test Sequence."
If no DTCs are stored:
- Press -> button.
