Scan Tool Testing and Procedures




Cruise Control System (CCS), Checking


Special tools and equipment
- Scan tool VAG 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable VAG 1551/3B
- Test box VAG 1598/31
- Hand multimeter VAG 1526 or multimeter V.A.G 1715
- Adapter set V.A.G 1594
- Wiring diagram

Checking conditions







- All fuses must be OK
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V

Test sequence
- Connect scan tool VAG 1551 (V.A.G 1552). Switch ignition on and select engine control module with "Address word" 01.
Connecting scan tool and selecting Engine Control Module (ECM). Refer to "VAG1551 Scan Tool" under "Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures/Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks"

- Press buttons 0 and 8 for function "Read Measuring Value Block" and confirm entry with Q button.

NOTE:
Vehicles with automatic transmission only:
- Perform a test drive and exceed a speed of 30 km/h (approx. 19 MPH) once. After stopping vehicle, switch off engine and leave selector lever in position 2, 3 or D.


Observe the valid safety measures during a test drive.

- Engage parking brake.


NOTE: On vehicles with an automatic transmission the COS switch will not be supplied with voltage until the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h and the selector lever is in position 2, 3 or D. Once the switch has been supplied with voltage it will also remain live at idle speed provided a driving range (except 1 or R) is selected.







- Check specification for switch position from CCS operating switch in display zone 4.







If the specifications are not obtained:
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons 0 and 6 for the "End output" function and confirm input with Q button.
- Switch ignition off.

If the specifications are not obtained:
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons 0 and 6 for function "End output" and confirm entry with Q button.
- Switch ignition off.
- Remove inner plenum chamber cover, left:







- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to control module wiring harness. Engine control module is not connected by this action.
- Check wiring from engine control module to CCS operating switch for open/short circuits:
- Check DTC memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase DTC memory. Refer to "DTC Memory Checking and Erasing" under "Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures/Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/With Manufacturers Scan Tool"
- Read readiness code. If DTC memory has been erased or engine control module was disconnected from permanent positive, readiness code must be generated again.
