Passengers Side Airbag Unit, Removing And Installing

Removing


CAUTION:
- Observe safety precautions for working on airbags
- Never let anyone sit in the passenger compartment when the airbag system is being worked on, especially when the airbag system is being connected to a power source or the battery is being reconnected.


- Switch ignition off.
- Open doors
- Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap
- Remove glove compartment for better access to harness connector.







- Carefully pull cover - 5 - for passengers side airbag from instrument panel (cover is pushed flush into instrument panel).







- Remove cover - 5 - upward.
- Remove bolts - 9 - (12 Nm), remove airbag unit from brace - 3 - (must be replaced when airbag deployed).

CAUTION: Electrostatic charges may result in involuntary deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must be electrostatically discharged before disconnecting ignition- and Ground (GND) wires. This is done e.g. by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Disconnect harness connector - 7 - from wiring harness - 8 - (secured to passengers side airbag).

NOTE: Always check for latest replacement parts information.

Installing







- Connect electrical harness connector - 7 - to passengers side airbag wiring harness - 8 - (rear part of airbag unit -1 - ).







- Secure airbag to brace - 3 - (must be replaced when airbag deployed).
- Install cover - 5 -.
- Insert cover flush to instrument panel.

CAUTION: Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Close doors.
- Connect battery ground (GND) strap
- Switch ignition on after installing all components.

NOTE:
- After connecting battery, vehicle options (radio, clock, electric window regulator) must be checked according to repair manual and/or user manual.
- If voltage of Electronic Control Module (ECM) is too low with ignition switched on, DTC memory and readiness code must be checked
