Front Seats, Removing And Installing

NOTE:
- Removal and installation is described for left side of vehicle. The same instructions apply for removal and installation for the right-hand side.
- Slight changes may have to be made to removal and installation procedures, depending upon equipment installed in vehicle.
- Obtain radio code before disconnecting battery.

Removing

CAUTION: Before working on electrical system: Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap

New version
- Push seat forward





- Unclip cap - 10 - from inner seat rail and remove bolt - 9 -. Unclip cover strip - 8 - at rear - arrow A - and remove toward rear - arrow B -.
- Unclip cap - 2 - from outer seat rail and remove bolt - 3 -. Unclip cover strip - 4 - at rear - arrow C - and remove toward front - arrow D -.

Old version





- Unclip cover strip - 1 - from rear inner seat rail - arrow A - and remove - arrow B -.
- Unclip cover strip - 5 - from rear outer seat rail - arrow C - and remove - arrow D -.

Continuation for all vehicles
- Slide seat toward rear.





- Remove bolts - 6 - (23 Nm) or nuts - 7 - (23 Nm).
- Push seat back out of guide rail.

CAUTION: Electrostatic charges may result in involuntary deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must be electrostatically discharged before disconnecting ignition- and Ground (GND) wires. This is done e.g. by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Disconnect connector for side airbag - 1 - from connector station - 2 -.





- If installed, disconnect connector for seat heater - 3 - from connector station.
- Connect connector - 4 - (airbag adapter VAS 5094 ) into connector housing - 5 -.

Installing
- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION: Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect battery

NOTE:
- After connecting battery, vehicle options (radio, clock, electric window regulator) must be checked according to repair manual and/or user manual.
- If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 signals a malfunction, DTC memory must be erased and then checked again using the fault read-out device V.A.G 1551.
