Steering column, checking for damage

Visual check

- Check all steering column components for damage.
- If damaged, replace complete steering column.

Functional check

- Steering column universal joint removed from steering gear.

- Make sure steering column turns easily without catching.
- Make sure steering column can be adjusted for tilt and telescopic.






- Check gap.
- Dimension -a-: Max. 23 mm (0.906 in.).
- If the specification is exceeded the steering column is damaged:
- Identify and replace steering column.
