Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory, Checking And Erasing

Special tools and equipment

- V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (or VAG 1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG 1551/3 cable

Procedure


NOTE: All functions previously performed with the V.A.G 1551/1552 can also be performed using the new VAS 5051 tester.


- Connect V.A.G 1551 scan tool (VAG 1552). Start engine and select the Engine Control Module (ECM) using address word 01. [1][2][3]Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool

Only if engine does not start:
- Operate starter for approx. 6 seconds. Do not switch ignition off afterward.
- Press PRINT button to turn on Scan Tool (ST) printer. Indicator lamp in button must light up.

- Operate scan tool according to indications on display:
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory" function 02. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Number of stored DTCs or "No DTC recognized" will be indicated on display.

NOTE
: If no malfunctions are stored, do not erase DTC memory unnecessarily or else readiness code will be reset.


- Press -> button.

If one or more DTCs are stored:
The stored malfunctions are displayed and printed out one after the other.

After stored malfunctions have been printed out, display indicates:

- Press buttons -0- and -5- to select "Erase DTC Memory" function 05. Press -0- button to confirm input.

Indicated on display


Rapid data transfer ->
DTC Memory is erased!



NOTE: If ignition was switched off between the steps "Check DTC memory" and "Erase DTC memory", DTC memory will not be erased.


- Press -> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06. Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Repair malfunctions that were printed out using DTC table:
