Description of On-Board Diagnostics





CAN-bus On Board Diagnostic (OBD) interface -J533- ("Gateway")
The instrument cluster is connected to the powertrain CAN-bus and convenience system CAN-bus.

The databus is also referred to as the CAN databus.

Data can be transmitted between the CAN-bus and the diagnostic wire (K wire) via the databus On Board Diagnostic (OBD) interface -J533-.

The CAN-bus On Board Diagnostic (OBD) interface -J533- must be coded according to vehicle equipment when instrument cluster is replaced.

The CAN-bus On Board Diagnostic (OBD) interface -J533- in the instrument cluster has its own diagnostic address.

NOTE:
The following description refers only to the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).

Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) and selecting functions (checking module version)

NOTE: Connect Scan Tool (ST). Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks/Scan Tool(ST), Connecting" under "Accessories and Optional Equipment/Alarm Module, (Vehicle Antitheft)"

- Switch on ignition.

- * Two operating modes are displayed alternately

- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer",switch on ignition and enter address word 19 for "gateway".

- Press buttons -1 - and 9-. "19" is the address word for "gateway".

- Press -> button.

- Do not select the additional functions that are printed out via the HELP button.
- After function is completed, the VAG 1551 returns to the start position:
