Readiness Code, Generating
Special tools and equipment
- VAG 1551 scan tool (or or 1552 scan tool) with cable VAG 1551/3
Test conditions
- All fuses must be OK.
- Vehicle stationary
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
- All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
- Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C, See display group 04, display zone 3.
- Intake air temperature less than 60 °C, See display group 04, display zone 4
- Catalyst temperature must be at least 250 °C and below 740 °C, See Display group 34, display zone 2
Work sequence
- Connect VAG 1551 scan tool ((VAG 1552). Switch ignition on and select engine control module with "Address word" 01.

Work step 1: Check DTC memory
- Switch ignition on (engine not running).
Indicated on display:

- Press keys 0 and 2 for function "Check DTC memory" and confirm entry with Q key.
The number of malfunctions stored or "No malfunctions recognized!" will be shown on the display.
X Faults recognized!
If a malfunctions is stored:
- Correct malfunctions printed out using DTC table:

If no malfunctions is stored:
- Press -> key.
Work step 2: Clear DTC memory
- Switch ignition on (engine not running).

- Press keys 0 and 5 for the function "Erase DTC memory" and confirm entry with Q key.
NOTE: The readiness code is reset or erased each time DTC memory is erased.

NOTE: If the ignition is switched off between "Check DTC memory" and "Erase DTC memory" the DTC memory will not be erased.

Work step 3: Matching the throttle valve control module to the engine control module
- Switch ignition on (engine not running).

Work step 4: Leak detection system diagnosis
- Vent fuel tank before diagnostic, by briefly opening and closing filler cap.
- Press button 2, 0 and 2 for "Display group number 202" and press Q button to confirm input.

- Let engine run at idle until the specified value x x 0 x x 1 x 0 is displayed in display field 4 after approx. 120 seconds.
NOTE:
- In case of malfunction, the display "fine leak" or "large leak" occurs in display field 3.
- If "Abort" appears in display field 3, repeat leak diagnostic.
- Fuel tank filler cap must be opened briefly before the diagnostic is repeated.
If the display does not indicate as described:
- Check DTC memory.
If the display indicates as described:
- Press -> key.
Work step 5: Knock sensor diagnosis
- Test drive vehicle with a 2nd person to observe display.
Observe the safety precautions when performing a road test.
Observe test conditions.

Work step 10: Air mass filling detection diagnosis

Work step 11: Heated oxygen sensor after catalyst diagnosis, Bank1
Indicated on display:
