Idle Speed: Adjustments
Idling Speed, Adapting
In exceptional circumstances e.g. customer complaints concerning droning noises, vibrations at idling speed, it is permitted to adjust the idling speed slightly. But ensure that the idling speed is not outside the specified idling range. (If the speed is outside the tolerance range it is possible that the vehicle will fail the next exhaust emissions test.)
Special tools and equipment
- VAG1551 scan tool or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3B cable
Test conditions
- No code stored in DTC memory
- Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C, See display group 04, display zone 3.
Work sequence
- Connect VAG1551 scan tool (VAG1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module). Refer to "VAG1551 Scan Tool Tools and Equipment

- Press keys 1 and 0 for the "Adaption" function and confirm input with the Q key.

Feed in channel number XX
- Press keys 0 and 1 for channel number 1 and confirm input with the Q key.

- Change the specified speed in display zone 2 in jumps of 10 RPM with the following keys:
VAG1551: keys 1 and 3
VAG1552: keys (Up arrow) and (Down arrow)

NOTE: The idling speed must not be adjusted to outside the permissible idling speed range.
- Confirm input by pressing Q key.

Store amended figure?
- Confirm entry by pressing Q key.

Amended figure is stored
- Conclude adaption by pressing -> button.
- Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End data transfer" function and confirm input with the Q key.
- Switch ignition off.
