Effective Mar. 11 2002, the Immobilizer secret number is encoded for increased security.
The encoded number is now 7 digits and is referred to as a "PIN" (Personal Identification Number).
On Board Diagnostics of the anti-theft Immobilizer system are to be carried out using either the VAS 5051 or VAS 5052 Vehicle Diagnostic Testing and Information System.

Note:
The process used to obtain the 7 digit PIN remains the same as with the 4 digit "secret number" previously used - that is: request via the "Warranty Information Network" (WIN). However, The WIN Administrator now requires additional information from both the vehicle and Dealer in order to to generate the 7 digit PIN.
VAS 5051 / VAS 5052 Diagnostic Testers
^ 7 digit PIN can only be processed and input using either the VAS 5051 or VAS 5052
Diagnostic Tester with basis CD version 3.10
and higher.
^ Both Volkswagen and Audi vehicles can be serviced using a tester with a "Dealership number" from either Brand.
^ Tester "Dealership number" should have been corrected per Technical Bulletin Group 01 No. 02-01 dated Feb. 21, 2002.
^ Tester "Dealership number" and WIN "Dealership number" must be the same Brand or PIN will not work.
Personal Identification Number (PIN)
PIN will only work;
^ On date of issue.
^ In testers with same "Dealership number" displayed in WIN.
^ In Immobilizer Control Module with correct 14 digit Serial number.
Information required by WIN Administrator:
Your WIN Administrator will require the following information to obtain a 7 digit Immobilizer PIN;
^ Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
^ Immobilizer Control Module Serial number.
^ Dealership number (Volkswagen or Audi) as indicated by VAS 5051 Diagnostic Tester being used.
^ Reason Code (see table below).
To obtain an Immobilizer Control Module
Serial number from vehicle with VAS 5051 or
VAS 5052 Diagnostic Tester using; "Guided Fault Finding". "Self Diagnosis".
Obtaining vehicle information required by WIN Administrator using "Guided Fault Finding" (when applicable)
Connect VAS 5051 Diagnostic tool and switch ignition ON.
- From VAS 5051 Start-up screen, select Administration".
- Record Importer number and Dealership number from upper right corner of display.
- Select back arrow <-- on navigation bar.
- Select "Guided Fault Finding" and navigate through menus selecting the appropriate model, type, year, etc..
^ VAS 5051 will interrogate all Control modules.
^ When complete, screen shows "Control modules have been interrogated" (black arrow).
^ Select "Go to" then "Function / Component Selection" (white arrow).
- Advance through menus to "Immobilizer Functions" menu.
- Select appropriate Immobilizer Function.
- Follow Guided Fault Finding steps until (14 digit) Immobilizer Control Module "Serial number" appears.
- Take this number along with "VIN", "Dealer number" from Tester, and "Reason Code" to your WIN Administrator
- Go to "Immobilizer PIN, obtaining from WIN".
Obtaining vehicle information required by WIN Administrator using "Self Diagnosis"
- Connect VAS 5051 Diagnostic tool and switch ignition ON.
- From VAS 5051 Start-up screen, select "Administration".
Record Importer number and Dealership number from upper right corner of display.
- Select back arrow <-- on navigation bar.
- From VAS 5051 Start-up screen, select "Vehicle Self Diagnosis".
- Use scroll bar to scroll down.
- Select vehicle system "17-Dash panel insert" (arrow) or "25-Immobilizer" depending on vehicle (see Repair Manual for details).
- Select appropriate function "Enabling (PIN)" or Adaptation channel 50 (PIN) -arrows-.
^ Functions "10-Adaption" and "11-Log-in Procedure" are no longer used for PIN.
- Follow "Self Diagnosis" steps until (14 digit) Immobilizer Control Module "Serial number" appears.
- Take this number along with "VIN", "Dealer number" from Tester, and "Reason Code" to your WIN Administrator.
- "Immobilizer PIN, obtaining from WIN".

- WIN Administrator should log on to WIN using the appropriate Brand according to Warranty Service Circular VWA-02-03 dated Mar. 11, 2002.
Once WIN Administrator reaches Radio Decoder / Immobilizer screen:
- WIN Administrator must enter password again.
^ "Dealership number" (arrow) must match "Dealership number" supplied by Technician from VAS 5051.
Win Administrator must input:
^ Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
^ Immobilizer Control Module Serial number.
^ Reason Code.
Immobilizer PIN,
Once PIN has been obtained:
- Continue to enter PIN using "Guided fault Finding" or "Self Diagnosis".
Note:
when entering a 7 digit PIN beginning with a "0", the "0" may not show on the confirmation screen e.g. PIN 0123456 may delay as 123456 on the VAS 5051 or VAS 5052 "PIN input" confirmation screen.
