^ 3217 Ring nut wrench
^ VAG131 8 Pressure tester
^ VAG131 8/1 Pressure gauge adapter
^ VAG1318/11 Adapter
^ 1318/17 adapter
^ VAG131 8/23 Fuel line feed adapter
^ VAG1348 Fuel measuring unit
^ VAG1466 A Electrical circuit tester
^ VAG1527 B Voltage tester
^ VW 1594 A Adapter kit
^ VAG1715 Multimeter, or equivalent
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench 40 to 200 Nm (30 to 148 ft. lbs.) (not shown)

Check conditions
^ Fuse 28 OK
^ Battery voltage 11.5 Volts minimum

Note: Observe description of function of crash fuel shut-off, Refer to Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch, Description and Operation

Checking function and voltage supply
- Fold rear seat bench forwards.
- Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
- Briefly operate starter.
^ Fuel pump must be heard to run.
- Switch OFF ignition.
If fuel pump does not run:
- Remove cover in front of fuse holder.





- Pull fuse 28 out of fuse holder.
- Connect VAG1 348/3A remote control between terminal 28a to fuel pump and battery positive (+) using VAG1348/3-2 adapter cable.
- Operate remote control.
If fuel pump runs:
- Check activation of fuel pump relay -J17- using Wiring Diagram.

If fuel pump does not run:





- Disconnect 4-pin harness connector from fuel delivery unit flange.





- Connect VAG1 527B Voltage tester to outer terminals of connector using jumper wires from VW 1594 Adapter kit.
- Operate remote control.
^ LED must light up
If LED does not light up:
- Locate and eliminate open circuit using wiring diagram.

If LED lights up (Voltage supply OK):





- Remove union nut with 3217 wrench.
- Ensure that electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.
If no open circuit can be found:
- Fuel pump faulty, replace fuel delivery unit, Refer to Fuel Delivery Valve Assembly, Service and Repair
