Test conditions
^ The main fuses must be OK
^ Battery voltage 11.5 V minimum.
^ The secondary air pump relay -J299- must be OK.
^ The suction hose for secondary air pump is not blocked or crimped.
^ No DTC must be stored in DTC memory.
- Check Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory:
Refer to Powertrain Management
Test sequence
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove pressure hose from secondary air pump motor -arrow-.
Note: Press together at end to release.
- Remove inner plenum chamber cover, left.
- For Engine Code AEG connect test box VAG1598/22 to ECM wiring harness.
- For Engine Codes AVH, AZG connect test box VAG1598/31 to control module wiring harness. The engine control module is not connected by this action.
- Switch ignition on.
- Bridge Test Box sockets with auxiliary cables from VAG1 594A adapter set:
Engine Code AEG: Socket 01 + 30.
Engine Codes AVH, AZG: Socket 01 + 9
^ Secondary air pump motor -V101- must run and air must exit from the connecting hose.
If motor runs, but no air exits hose:
- Switch ignition OFF.
- Replace secondary air pump motor-V101-.
If the secondary air pump motor -V101- does not run:
- Pull 2-pin connector off secondary air pump motor -V101- -arrow-.
- Connect VAG1527 B Voltage Tester to terminals of wiring connector using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
^ LED must light-up
If LED lights up (voltage supply OK):
- Replace secondary air pump motor -V101-. )
LED does not light up:
- Reconnect 2-pin harness connector.
- Perform output diagnostic test and check activation of secondary air pump motor relay J299:
Refer to Powertrain Management
- Check Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory:
Refer to Powertrain Management1
- Display Readiness code:
Refer to Powertrain Management
- Readiness code must be reset if ECM is subject to low voltage with ignition ON or if fault memory is erased.
