Fuel Filter: Service and Repair




Fuel Tank With Attachments and Fuel Filter, Removing and Installing







1 - Sealing cap
- Secured with strap from MY 2000
2 - Seal
- Replace if damaged
3 - Securing screw
4 - Tank flap unit
- With rubber cup
5 - 10 Nm
6 - Vent pipe
- Check securely seated
7 - Change-over valve
- To remove valve, unclip sideways out of support.
- Before installing remove sealing cap item 1.
8 - O-ring
- Replace if damaged
9 - Vent pipe
- White Check securely seated
- To remove from flange, press release button on connecting piece.
10 - Wire routing
- In long member
11 - Vent pipe
- Check securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
12 - Fuel tank
- Support with engine and transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A when removing
13 - Heat shield
- For fuel tank
14 - Clamping washer
15 - Fuel tank cover
16 - 25 Nm
17 - Securing strap
- Note differing length
- Installation position: Fixing point (holes) point in direction of travel
18 - Fuel filter
- Fitting position: arrow points in through-flow direction
19 - Screw-type clip
20 - Supply pipe
- Black
- Check securely seated
21 - Vent pipe
- White
- Clipped onto top of fuel tank
- Check securely seated
- To EVAP canister purge regulator valve (N80)
22 - Sealing ring
- Replace if damaged
- Coat with fuel when installing
23 - Fuel delivery unit
- Note fitting position on fuel tank See Fig. 1
- Clean strainer if soiled
24 - Union nut
- Remove and install with spanner 3217
25 - Supply pipe
- Black
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Check securely seated
26 - Return pipe
- Blue or blue markings
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Check securely seated
27 - Gravity/overflow - valve
- Check valve for through-flow:
- Valve vertical: open
- Valve tilted 45°: closed
28 - Pressure retaining valve
- For fuel tank breathing
29 - Ground connection
- Check securely seated
