Radiator, removing and installing





Special tools and equipment
^ T10007 Refractometer
^ VAG1306 Drip tray for VAG 1202A
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (3 7 to 37 ft. lbs.), or equivalent
^ VAS 5024 Assembly tool for spring-type clip or VAG1921 Hose clip pliers

Removing
- Drain coolant.
- Remove front bumper.
- Disconnect coolant hoses from radiator.
- Disconnect thermo-switch harness connectors.
- Remove ribbed belt tensioning element, Refer to Drive Belt, Service and Repair
- Remove radiator mounting bolts and take out radiator with fans attached.

Vehicles with A/C:
- Observe additional information and removal work.

Installing

Note: Installation is carried out in the reverse order of the removal procedure. When installing, note the following:

- Fill with coolant.
- Electrical connections and routing.

Vehicles with A/C, additional removal information

WARNING: Do NOT open the A/C refrigerant circuit!

Note: To prevent damage to the A/C condenser and refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

- Remove retaining clamp(s) from refrigerant lines.
- Before removing upper radiator support, fasten to body.
- Remove A/C condenser from radiator and fasten to lock carrier.
- Secure condenser to body so that refrigerant lines/hoses are not stressed.
- Remove radiator downward.
