Instrument cluster, adaptation procedure when replacing
NOTE:
- To avoid mix-up and false entry, determine 14-digit identification number for the instrument cluster only by checking control module version using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST). Then use identification number to ask the appropriate distributor or importer for the 4-digit secret number required for adaptation!
- If only the instrument cluster is being replaced, the secret number of the old instrument cluster must be used for adaptation. If all components are being replaced, use the secret number of the new instrument cluster.
- Every instrument cluster has its own secret number!
Requirements
Authorized key available.
- Insert old (authorized) key into ignition lock.

- Secret number is not being accepted. Repeat input.
- 3 attempts at entering the secret number correctly are possible immediately. The next 3 attempts are not permitted for at least 10 minutes. During this time, the ignition must remain constantly switched on. On Board Diagnostic (OBD) must be also exited using the "End Output" function 06.
- The wait period between each of the next 3 attempts doubles up to the maximum time of 255 minutes.
