Cylinder Head Cover ( Banks 1 and 2), Removing and Installing

^ T10094 Puller





^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ D176 404 A2 sealant

Requirements
The engine must be no more than warm to touch.

Removing

WARNING: When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
^ Route all the various lines (e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, EVAP system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines and hoses) and electrical wiring so that the original positions are restored.
^ Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.


^ Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
^ With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground strap.

Note: All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing the engine, must be replaced in the same position when installing the engine

^ Remove engine cover.
^ Disconnect hoses for crankcase ventilation at pressure regulator valve and at cylinder head covers, Refer to Cylinder Block, Service and Repair, Components of crankcase ventilation system, Removing and installing, See Item 4.

Note: Press buttons on hose couplings to disconnect.

^ Remove intake manifold upper part (along with both intake manifold side parts).

Note: Seal the intake ports in the lower part of the intake manifold with a clean cloth.

^ Disconnect connectors from ignition coils.
^ Remove ignition coils with output stages using puller T10094.

CAUTION: Use of tool T10094 is required to avoid damaging these sensitive components.

^ Remove cylinder head cover.

Installing

Note:
^ Replace cylinder head cover if damaged or leaking.
^ Replace cylinder head cover seal if damaged or leaking.

^ Clean sealing surface. Sealing surface must be free of oil and grease.





^ Apply sealant D176 404 A2 to clean sealing surface between cylinder head and cover.

Note:
^ Note the use by date of the sealant.
^ The cylinder head cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.

^ Install cylinder head cover immediately and tighten all securing bolts hand tight.





Cylinder bank 1
^ Tighten securing bolts in sequence as illustrated.
Torque setting: 10 Nm





Cylinder bank 2
^ Tighten securing bolts in sequence as illustrated.
Torque setting: 10 Nm

Cylinder banks 1 and 2
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.
