Lubrication system, servicing

WARNING!: When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
^ Route all the various lines (e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, EVAP system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines and hoses) and electrical wiring so that the original positions are restored.
^ Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.


Note:
^ For engine disassembly and assembly, mount the engine to VAS6095 holding fixture
^ The engine must not be put down on the sump, otherwise the fluid seal between the lower and upper sump will be damaged Use T10016 engine stand
^ The oil level must not be above the max. mark -danger of damage to catalyst! Marks
^ If when repairing an engine, metal shavings or a large quantity of small metal particles are found, this could indicate that the crankshaft and conrod bearings are damaged. To prevent consequential damage perform the following repairs:
Thoroughly clean oil passages
Replace oil cooler
Replace oil filter

Disassembling and assembling oil filter bracket, Refer to Oil Filter Housing, Service and Repair.
Disassembling and assembling oil pump, Refer to Oil Pump, engine, Service and Repair.
Removing and installing oil pump, Refer to Oil Pump, engine, Service and Repair.
Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch, Refer to Engine Oil Pressure, Testing and Inspection.

Engine oil specifications:
The following terms must appear on the oil container singly or in combination with other designations:

ACEA A3
SAE 5W-40, SAE 10W-40, or SAE 15W-50
These VW specifications may also appear on the oil container:

VW standard 502 00, 503 01 or 505 01.

Note: If the above described oils are not available, the following oil may be used for topping up only:

ILSAC GF3

SAE 5W-30
