Retaining Plate For Interior Mirror With Rain Sensor, Installing
Removal of windshield is no longer necessary, as with previous repair procedure.
Detached retaining plates can be cleaned and reused.
Preparing windshield
- Scrape PUR adhesive material and primer from windshield down to ceramic layer using glass scraper.
CAUTION: Do not damage ceramic coating. Scratches will remain permanently visible.
- Clean adhesive surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
- Allow cleaner to dry at least 10 minutes.
- Apply glass/paint primer D 009 200 02.
- Allow primer to dry minimum 10 minutes to maximum 1 hour, prior to bonding.
Preparing detached and new mirror base
- Remove PUR adhesive from mounting plate with wire brush if reusing plate.
- Prepare adhesive surface by wet-sanding with fine emery paper (800-1200 grit) until water remains (does not bead and run off) on adhesive surface.
- Clean with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
Bonding mirror base
- Apply 2K polyurethane adhesive D 180 KD2 A1 direct to prepared and cleaned mirror base adhesive surface.
- Adhesive bead diameter: Approx. 2.5 to 3 mm (1/8 in.).
- Press mirror base into position on prepared windshield immediately after applying adhesive to base.
- Align mirror base in position on ceramic pre-coat surface and secure using adhesive tape.
Cleaning and removing excess adhesive
- Carefully remove adhesive tape 30 minutes to 1 hour after attaching mirror base.
- Carefully remove excess soft adhesive using spatula.
- Remove remaining excess adhesive completely using a cloth or primer applicator soaked in cleaning solution.
Installation of rain sensor and mirror
- Mirror can be installed after adhesive dries minimum 2.5 hours.
