Secondary air injection (AIR) pump motor -V101-, checking

Only engine code APH

Special tools and equipment
^ VAG1527B Diode test lamp
^ VAG1594A Adapter set
^ VAG1598/31 Test box

^ Main fuses must be OK
^ Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
^ Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) performed

Test sequence
- Remove engine cover.

- Remove pressure hose at motor for secondary air injection pump -arrow-.

Note: To release, press together the buttons on the hose coupling.

- Remove inner plenum chamber cover, left side.

- Connect test box VAG1598/31 to control module wiring harness. The engine control module is not connected by this action.
- Switch ignition on.
- Bridge test box sockets 01 + 50 with aux. cables from VAG1594.
The secondary air injection pump motor must run and air must exit the connecting hose.

If the motor runs, but no air exits:
- Switch ignition off.
- Replace secondary air pump motor.
If the secondary air injection pump motor does not run:
- Pull 2-pin connector off secondary air injection pump motor -V101-.

- Connect diode test lamp VAG1 527B to disconnected connector using aux. cables from VAG1594.
LED must light up.
If LED lights up (voltage supply OK):
- Switch ignition off.
- Replace secondary air pump motor.
If LED does not light up:
- Reconnect 2-pin connector.
- Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) and activate EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
- Check DTC memory.
- Read readiness code.
If the DTC memory has been erased or the engine control module separated from the permanent positive, the readiness code must be generated again.

Test conditions
^ Fuse for secondary air injection pump relay -J299- -arrow- located in the main fuse box on the battery is OK.
^ No DTC's must be stored in DTC memory, Refer to Powertrain Management
^ The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
^ The suction hose for secondary air pump is not blocked or kinked

Test sequence
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect pressure hose from secondary air injection pump motor.

Note: To release, press together the buttons on the hose coupling.

- Activate secondary air injection pump relay via Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
Secondary air pump motor must run at intervals, and air must exit the outlet connections.
If the motor runs, but no air exits:
- Proceed with Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) until completed.
- Press keys O and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with Q key.
- Switch ignition off.
- Replace secondary air injection pump motor.
- Check DTC memory.

If the DTC memory has been erased or the engine control module separated from the permanent positive, the readiness code must be generated again.
If the secondary air injection pump motor does not run at intervals.
- Check activation of secondary air injection pump motor.
