Triple-roller joint, disassembling and assembling
Disassembling





- Open clamp.
- Open clamp on axle shaft and slide back triple-rotor joint boot.
- Clamp drive axle in vice.





- Drive screwdriver or similar into cover and pry off cover.

If cover cannot be pried off, drive screwdriver or similar through on opposite side, then pry off cover.





- Mark installation position of parts 1, 2 and 3.

Notes:
^ If parts are not marked, and the components are not assemble to their previous position. It is possible it will be noisy when driving.
^ Use a waterproof felt tipped pen marking parts.

1. Triple-rotor joint housing
2. Triple-rotor star
3. Axle shaft

- Remove O-ring -arrow- out from groove.
- Hold triple-rotor joint and remove axle shaft from vise.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the rollers do not slide off the triple-rotor star and fall off.

- Hold axle shaft and triple-rotor joint housing vertical and using other hand slowly slide housing back.





- Using felt tipped pen, mark installation position of rollers -1- to triple-rotor star -2-.
- Remove rollers -1- and place on a clean surface.





- Remove circlip.

1. Pliers (commercial type)

- Install axle shaft in press.





- Hold axle shaft, then press triple-rotor star off axle shaft.
- Pull joint together with triple-rotor joint boot off shaft.
- Clean shaft and housing.

Assembling

- Slide small clamp for triple-rotor joint boot onto shaft.
- Slide triple-rotor joint boot onto shaft.
- Slide triple-rotor housing joint onto shaft.

Assembling triple-rotor star

The chamfer (arrow) on the triple-rotor star is to ease assemble. The star is installed in such a way that the chamfer faces toward the opposite end of the axle shaft.





- Install triple-rotor star onto shaft as per markings and drive on up to stop.
- Install circlip, make sure that it is seated correctly.
- Install rollers onto triple-rotor star per markings.
- Slide joint over rollers and hold.
- Now remove axle shaft from vise and re-clamp triple-rotor joint housing in vise.





- Install rectangular section seal -arrow- from repair kit into groove.

The rectangular section seal, seals the triple-rotor joint directly to the joint flange and it is unnecessary to reinstall the cover

- Press 90 grams (3.2 oz.) of joint grease, from repair kit, into triple roller joint.
- Press 90 grams (3.2 oz.) of joint grease, from repair kit, into reverse side of triple-roller joint.
- Install triple-roller joint boot.





- Install clamp.





- Tighten small hose clamp with pliers V.A.G. 1275.





Installation precautions

CAUTION:
^ Secure the triple-rotor joint with adhesive tape to prevent the housing from being accidentally pushed back when installing the drive axle.
^ Remove the adhesive tape just before bolting to the drive flange.
