Convertible Top, Installing New Fastener When Replacing Side Panel Trim Flap Opening Mechanism
Side panel flap mechanism for convertible top requires replacement.

Technical Background
Boss was removed from new production flap opening mechanism.

Production Solution
No production change required.

Service
- Remove flap opening mechanism on the affected side (see Repair Manual Body Interior - Group 70, Pillars and side trims "Flap module (Convertible), removing and installing" ).

Prior to installing new part.
- Inspect new flap opening mechanism for modification at rearmost mounting point.





- Measure thickness at of rearmost mounting point boss (arrow).

Thickness of boss on old style part at mounting point is approx. 8 mm.

New flap opening mechanisms have been modified (boss has been removed) at the rearmost body mounting point (arrow).

Thickness on new part at mounting point is approx. 3 mm.

If thickness of new part = approx. 8 mm:
- Continue to install flap opening mechanism in reverse order of removal.

If thickness of new part = approx. 3 mm:





- New style fastener Part No: WHT 000 193 must be installed to body at rearmost fastening point prior to installing assembly.

Long end (threads with sealant) into body mounting point.

Assemble flap opening mechanism to stud using nut, Part No: N 901 326 03.
- Install new flap opening mechanism on the affected side (see Repair Manual Body Interior - Group 70, Pillars and side trims "Flap module (Convertible), removing and installing").

If Part No: WHT 000 193 is not available:
- Flap opening mechanism can be installed with existing fastener and a spacer with thickness = 5 mm, approx. outer diameter = 21 mm to 23 mm and inner diameter = 6 to 10 mm) (Part No: N 900 722 01) can be used between flap mechanism and body mount.

Tip: If proper clearance using new stud or spacer is not maintained, the new flap mechanism will be damaged when installed!

For all vehicles to VIN: 1Y_3M317486, if not previously completed:
- Flap opening mechanism should be "optimized" as described in Technical Bulletin 2005443 for additional information.
