Special tools and equipment
^ 3203 Oil seal extractor
^ 3415 Counter support
^ T10053 Assembly device
^ V.A.G. 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ V.A.G. 1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)
Removing
^ Remove ribbed belt.
^ Remove toothed belt.
^ Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley by countering support sprocket with 3415.
^ To guide seal extractor, screw center bolt into crankshaft onto limit stop by hand.
^ Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor 3203 nine turns (approximately 20 mm) out of outer part and lock with knurled screw.
^ Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor 3203, place it in position and exerting firm pressure screw it as far as possible into oil seal.
^ Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until oil seal is pulled out.
Installing
Note: Gradual introduction of PTFE oil seal (Poly-Tetra-Fluor-Ethylene). Identification characteristics: No annular spring, wider sealing lip. The sealing lip of this oil ring must not be oiled or greased. A radial shaft seal of older design (with annular spring) may be replaced with a PTFE oil seal, but not vice versa.
^ Before installing, remove oil remains from crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.
^ Fit guide sleeve T10053/1 onto crankshaft journal.
^ Slide oil seal over guide sleeve onto crankshaft journal.
^ Press in oil seal onto limit stop using press sleeve T10053 and bolt T10053/2 (M16 x 15 x 60).
^ Install crankshaft toothed belt pulley and counter support with 3415.
^ Tighten new center bolt to 90 Nm plus 90° (1/4 turn) further (turning further can be done in several stages).
Note: Thread and shoulder must be free of oil and grease.
Installing toothed belt and adjusting timing.
^ Install ribbed belt.
