Customer States All Gear Selection Lights are Illuminated in Instrument Cluster
Customer may complain of the following symptoms:
- All gear selection indicator lights illuminated while vehicle is in operation
- DTC 01045 Tiptronic switch -F189- stored in TCM
- Cannot manually shift transmission through gear range while gear selection indicator lights are illuminated

Technical Background





Tiptronic magnet housing may be misaligned.

Service





Connect VAS 5051/ 5052, interrogate and print fault memory.

NOTE:
Attach the VAS 5051/5052 print out to the repair order. Failure to provide documentation may result in a denied warranty claim.

- Remove gear shift selector cover and inspect magnet housing, see Repair Manual Group 37 Automatic gearbox, control, assembly, housing, Selector mechanism cover and circuit board in ElsaWeb.

NOTE:
Before replacing the gear shift selector cover, ensure the Tiptronic magnet and housing is seated properly.

Tip: You can access the magnet without removing the circuit board.





To ensure magnet housing is seated properly:
- Remove it with a small flat blade screw driver.





- Position magnet and holder back on gear shift selector guide and slide back into position.

Tip: To ensure the magnet housing is installed and seated correctly, listen for an audible click.
