Driveshaft to flange, measuring radial runout and marking
(Vehicles without tapped holes in front of rear final drive)

Special tools and equipment





- VW 387 Universal dial gage holder
- Dial gage
- VW 792 Installation tool
- VAG 1331 Torque wrench

The radial run-out must always be measured if the flange has been removed.
The radial run-out can be measured with the rear final drive in place.
- Remove driveshaft from rear final drive and tie up.
- Remove right deflector on rear final drive.





- Insert VW 792 installation tool in middle hole -arrow- for right deflector/drive shaft.
- Install VW 387 universal dial gage holder and gage to VW 792 installation tool.
- Set gage to zero with an initial tension of 1 mm and place on flat plate (arrow) in flange.
- Turn both rear wheels in same direction to rotate flange one complete turn.
- Make a colored dot on outside of flange where radial run-out is largest (corresponds to greatest distance from axis of rotation).
- Remove any previous marks on flange.





- When driveshaft is installed marks on flange of driveshaft (arrow-A-) and those on rear final drive (arrow-B) must be in line.
