Special tools and equipment
^ VAG 1342 Oil pressure tester
^ VAG 1527 B Diode test lamp
^ VAG 1594 A Adapter set
Test conditions
^ Engine oil level OK, checking, Refer to Engine Lubrication, Service and Repair, Lubrication System Components, Removing and Installing.
^ On vehicles with automatic transmission selector lever in "P" or"N" position
Checking oil pressure switch
^ Remove front bumper, Refer to Body and Frame, Service and Repair Service and Repair
^ Move lock carrier into service position, Refer to Body and Frame, Radiator Support, Service and Repair [1][2]Procedures
^ Remove oil pressure switch -F1- and thread into tester.
^ Thread tester into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch.
^ Connect brown wire of tester to Ground (-).
^ Connect diode test lamp VAG 1527 B using auxiliary cables from VAG 1594 A to battery positive (+) and oil pressure switch.
LED must not light up.
If the LED lights up:
^ Replace oil pressure switch -F1-.
If the LED does not light up:
^ Start engine and run at idling speed.
At 1.2...1.6 bar pressure LED must light up; otherwise replace oil pressure switch -F1.
Check oil pressure
^ Check oil pressure at idle engine speed.
Specified value: minimum 2.0 bar
^ Increase engine speed further.
At 2000 rpm and an oil temperature of 80°C, the oil pressure should be between 3.0... 4.5 bar.
If the specifications are not obtained:
^ Correct mechanical damage, e.g. bearing damage.
^ Replace oil filter bracket with pressure relief valve.
^ Replace oil pump if necessary.
At higher engine speeds oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar
If the specification is exceeded:
^ Check oil galleries.
^ Replace oil pump if necessary.
