Service Notes (AWD)







Suspension strut, vehicles with four-wheel drive, servicing
1. Protective cap
^ Preassembled on shock absorber
2. Rubber insert
^ Preassembled on shock absorber
3. Spring seat
4. Spacer
^ The spacer is only installed on shock absorbers from the manufacturer "Bilstein".
^ It must not be installed to shock absorbers of other manufacturers!
5. Gas filled shock absorber
^ Can be replaced individually
^ Application

^ Special information; Suspension, Wheels, Steering No.3; Leaking shock absorbers, noisy shock absorbers

Functional check
Press shock absorber together by hand. When doing this the piston rod must move over its complete length smoothly and with even force.

When the shock absorber has sufficient gas pressure the piston rod returns to its original starting position.

If the piston rod does not return to its starting position and there is no loss of oil, the shock absorber is still OK.
6. Coil spring
^ Examine for paint damage and rectify paint damage if necessary
^ Application
^ Refer to, Parts Supplier
^ After installing, the ends of the spring must lie in rubber insert stop
^ Spring application
^ The coil spring application for vehicles from vehicle identification No. 3B - WE 113 562 is performed via PR numbers.
^ These numbers are indicated on the vehicle data plate.
7. Spring seat with protective tube
^ Two-part
8. Buffer stop
9. Shock absorber mounting
10. Self-locking hex nut, 27 Nm
^ Replace each time after removing
