Subframe, Removing and Installing


Subframe, removing and installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required





^ VAG 1383 A transmission jack

Removing

- Remove noise insulation.





- Remove bolts -1-.
- Disconnect axle shaft from transmission drive flange.
- Pull wheel bearing housing with ball joint out from control arm.
- Swing wheel with suspension strut outward and support.





- Remove bolts -1- and -2- and remove pendulum support.
- Remove bolts -5- for steering gear.
- Remove stabilizer bar link nut -7-.
- TDI engines, additionally remove bolts -6- for exhaust system.
- Place transmission jack VAG 1383 A with 1359/2 under sub-frame.
- Remove bolts -3- and -4- for sub-frame.
- Lower subframe using transmission jack VAG 1383 A.

Installing

Before inserting bolts for subframe, position steering gear on subframe and insert bolts.





The threaded sleeve -1- must seat in subframe hole.

Further installation is performed in reverse order

After installing check position of steering wheel during a test drive.

If steering wheel is not in straight ahead position the front axle tracking must be checked!

Tightening torques:
Ball joint to control arm 20 Nm + 90°(15 ft. lbs. + 90°)
Use new bolts!

Pendulum support to sub-frame
M 10 x 70 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
M 10 x 30 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)

Steering gear to sub-frame 20 Nm + 90°(15 ft. lbs. + 90°)
Use new bolts!

Coupling rod to stabilizer bar 30 Nm(22 ft. lbs.)
