Glow plug system, checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Multimeter V.A.G. 1526A
- Adapter set V.A.G. 1594A
Requirements
- Glow plug strip fuse in battery fuse holder OK
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
- All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window defogger, must be switched off.
- Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248- OK
Work sequence
- Disconnect connector on Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor -G62-.
Note: Disconnecting the sensor simulates the engine condition "cold" and when switching the ignition on the relevant glow period is initiated.
- Disconnect glow plug connector.
- Connect multimeter to measure voltage between a glow plug connector and vehicle ground.
- Switch on ignition for approximately 20 seconds. Approx. battery voltage must be displayed.
- If no voltage is present.
- Refer to Electrical Wiring Diagrams
