Combination valve, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment





- V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm)

Removing
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove intake manifold upper part.
- Disconnect pressure hose from combination valve.
- Remove middle insulation tray
- Unbolt heat shield for right-hand drive axle.
- Unbolt lower support of combination valve connecting pipe to exhaust manifold.
- Unbolt upper support of combination valve connecting pipe to exhaust manifold and remove pipe.
- Depending on version disconnect Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) - G39-.
- Remove warm air collector plate with combination valve.






- Guide a 5 mm hex socket head bolt into holes -3- of warm air collector plate -1- and remove bolts -4- for combinabon valve -2-.
- Remove combination valve.

Installing

Note:
Thoroughly clean contact suifaces between combination valve and warm air collector
Replace seal

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence of removal.

Special tools and equipment





- VAG 1390 Hand vacuum pump

Requirements

- No malfunctions stored in DTC memory
- Final control diagnosis performed, Adapting functions and components.
- Vacuum lines and hose unions must not leak.
- Vacuum lines not blocked or kinked.

Work sequence

- Remove engine cover.






- Remove vacuum hose -1- from Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve -N112- -2-.
- Connect hand pump VAG 1390 to vacuum hose-i-.

Note: Do not use compressed air during the following check!






- Remove pressure hose -1- from secondary air pump motor and blow in with slight pressure (arrow).

Combination valve must be closed.

- Operate hand vacuum pump.
Valve must open

If combination valve does not open:

- Replace combination valve.

Engines: AEG, AVH, AZG, BBW and BEV

Requirements

- No malfunctions stored in DTC memory
- Final control diagnosis performed, Adapting functions and components.
- Vacuum lines and hose unions must not leak.

Work sequence

Note: Do not use compressed air during the following check!

- Remove engine cover.






- Remove pressure hose (arrow) from secondary air pump motor.

Note: Press buttons on hose couplings together to release coupling.

- Blow lightly into pressure hose to combination valve.
Combination valve must be closed.

- Blow forcibly into pressure hose to combination valve.
Combination valve must open

It combination valve does not open or is continually open:

- Replace combination valve.
