Fuel Supply System, Bleeding




Fuel Supply System, Bleeding (Vehicles With Engine Code BBW, BEV)

NOTE:
- To prevent damage to catalytic converter the fuel system (without return hose) must be bled after repair work on fuel lines or on fuel filter.
- The vehicle must only be started after bleeding.

Recommended special tools and equipment







- V.A.G 1348/3A remote control with V.A.G 1348/3-2 adapter cable
- VAS 5226 Suction pump

Not illustrated:
- 3094 hose clamp
- V.A.G 1318/20 adapter
- V.A.G 1318/20-1 adapter

Requirements







- Fuses must be OK.
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 Volts.
- Fuel Pump (FP) relay -J17- must be OK, check.
- All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
- Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
- For vehicles with automatic transmission, selector lever must be in position -P- or -N-.

Work sequence
Observe safety precautions.
Observe rules for cleanliness.

- Remove cover in front of fuse holder.







- Remove fuse no. 28 from fuse holder.
- Connect V.A.G1348/3A remote control to Fuel Pump (FP) and B+ at terminal 28a using V.A.G1348/3-2 remote control connection.
- - Remove pressure hose between Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump and combination valve.

NOTE: Depress buttons on hose connections to do so.







- Remove sealing cap (arrow) from bleeder valve.







- Thread adapter (V.A.G 1318/20-1) on adapter (V.A.G 1318/20).
- Turn valve at T-piece (arrow) counterclockwise until it is completely open.







- Connect adapter (V.A.G 1318/20) with adapter (V.A.G 1318/20-1) and suction pump (VAS 5226) to bleeder valve.
- Turn valve (at T-piece) clockwise into bleeder valve to stop.
- Check adapter and hose connections for proper seal.
- Operate remote control until fuel flows out of bleeder valve without bubbles.







- Now, turn valve at T-piece (arrow) counterclockwise until it is completely open again.
- Clamp together diesel extractor hose (e.g. hose clamp 3094) and disconnect it from adapter (V.A.G 131820-1).
- Remove adapter V.A.G 1318/20 from bleeder valve.







- Screw on sealing cap (arrow) for bleeder valve.
