Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch: Description and Operation

Crash Fuel Shut-off, Function
Airbag-equipped vehicles have a fuel crash shutoff. This is intended to reduce the risk of vehicle fire following a crash by switching off the Fuel Pump (FP) via the Fuel Pump (FP) relay. This function also improves comfort during engine start-up. When the door is opened, the Fuel Pump (FP) is activated for 2 seconds so that pressure builds in the fuel system.

When opening fuel system:
- Observe safety precautions.

- Check activation of Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17-according to wiring diagram.
