Engine Control Module (ECM), replacing

Special tools
- VAG1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG1551/3 Adapter cable

Work sequence
- Print out the ECM identification (and thereby the previous ECM coding) as follows:
- Connect VAG1551/1552 Scan Tool.
- Press -0- and -1- buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"

- Press Scan Tool print button to print out ECM identification.
- Press -> button.

- Press -0- and -6- buttons to select Function 06: "End output"
- Press -Q- button to enter input.

- Switch OFF ignition.
- Remove inner covers on plenum.







- Carefully pry off retainer bar with screwdriver (arrow).
- Release harness connector from Engine Control Module (ECM) and pull off.
- Insert new ECM and press to the left.
- Tighten nut for ground wire (located in front of ECM) to 91 ± 1 Nm (80 ± 9 in. lb)
- Check previous ECM coding and coding of new ECM.
- Activate Cruise Control System.
- Check DTC memory of new ECM, erase if necessary.
- Adapt new control module to immobilizer.
