Sealing flange - belt pulley end, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment





^ 3099 Counterhold
^ T10053 Assembly device
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench (40 to 200 Nm)
^ Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
^ D 176 04 A2 Silicone sealant
^ Flat scraper

Removing
^ Remove toothed belt.





^ Remove crankshaft toothed belt gear. To do this counterhold gear with 3099.

Note: When installing the counterhold, place two washers between toothed belt gear and counter bracket.

^ Drain engine oil.
^ Remove oil pan.
^ Unbolt sealing flange.
^ Remove sealing flange. Release using light blows with a rubber headed hammer if necessary.
^ Remove sealant residue on cylinder block with a flat scraper.





^ Remove sealant remains on sealing flange with a rotating plastic brush (wear eye protection).
^ Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

Note:
^ Observe the use-by date of the sealing compound.
^ The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant.

^ Remove oil residue from crankshaft journal using clean cloth.





^ Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle approximately 3 mm diameter).





^ Apply silicone sealant bead as shown to clean sealing surface of sealing flange.
^ Thickness of sealant bead (arrow): 2 to 3 mm

Note:
^ The sealing compound bead must not be too thick, otherwise excessive sealing compound will enter the oil pan and may block the suction pipe strainer. It can also drop onto the sealing surface the crankshaft sealing ring.
^ Cover the sealing flange sealing surface with a clean cloth before applying the sealant bead.

^ Install sealing flange immediately and lightly tighten all bolts.

Note: Use guide sleeve T10053/1 to install sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.

^ Tighten sealing flange securing bolts using alternate sequence.
Tightening torque: 15 Nm
^ Install oil pan.

Note: The sealant must be allowed to cure for approximately 30 minutes after installing the oil pan. Only then fill the engine with oil.

^ Install toothed belt.
