Convertible Top, Binding Worn
Edge Binding of convertible top worn.
Technical Background
Side windows slow to drop due to window regulator motor programming causing wear in convertible top edge binding material or any other wear issues on edge binding material.
Production Solution
New window regulators and window regulator motors were implemented in production.
Service
DO NOT replace the convertible top for this condition. Repair convertible top, as follows, by sending it to one of the recommended trim facilities on the attachment provided.
Convertible Top Repair
^ Remove convertible top from top frame. See Repair Manual for removal procedure.
^ Send the convertible top material, part kit - See --> Required Parts and Tools, and attached sewing instructions to the recommended trim facility for repair.
The following steps are only applicable for model year 2003 and 2004 vehicles, up to VIN 1Y_4M345795.
Verify both window regulators and electric motors operate as follows:
^ Raise both windows, ensure remote key is outside of the vehicle, close and lock doors.
^ Unlock using the remote key while observing both windows.
If both windows automatically drop, allowing for convertible top clearance when opening door:
^ DO NOT replace window regulators and electric motors.
^ Proceed with convertible top repair.
If one window DOES NOT automatically drop, allowing for convertible top clearance when opening door:
^ Replace both window regulators and electric motors. Use only the part numbers listed in this bulletin. See --> Required Parts and Tools
Note:
Replacement regulators are not compatible with previous part numbers and must be replaced in pairs. When regulator replacement is required, always replace both regulators and motors.
^ Use applicable Service Repair Times for window regulator and electric motor replacement.
^ See Repair Manual for replacement/alignment procedure.
Perform the window learning/synchronizing and setting pinch protection procedure.
Use key in the lock cylinder, as follows:
1. Insert key in driver's door lock cylinder.
2. Turn and hold key to left or right direction. After window moves to full up or down position, hold for additional 3 seconds then release key.
3. Turn and hold key in opposite direction until window has moved to opposite stop position, hold for additional 3 seconds then release key.
4. Learning/synchronizing has been completed. Pinch protection learned.
^ Proceed with convertible top repair.
Warranty
When only completing repair for convertible top repair, submit claim using this table.
When completing repair with window regulators, electric motors, and convertible top repair, submit claim using this table.
Required Parts and Tools
Convertible Top Repair Kit
Color specific kit contains: 7.0 meters of binding, 1 color-matched spool of thread, and 4 rivets used during convertible top installation.
Window Regulator and Electric Motor Replacement (excludes VIN 1Y_4M345796 > 2007 model year vehicles)
Note:
For model year 2003 and 2004 vehicles, up to VIN 1Y_4M345795, must only use the part numbers listed in this bulletin. No other window regulator or electric motor part numbers can be used for repair.
Note:
Replacement regulators are not compatible with previous part numbers and must be replaced in pairs. When regulator replacement is required, always replace both regulators and motors.
