Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair


Locking cable, removing and installing

Removing
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If this is the case obtain anti-theft coding.
- Shift selector lever to "P".
- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Removing drivers airbag unit and steering wheel.
- Remove trim on left under instrument panel.
- Removing steering column trim.





- Remove bolts/screws -1- from height and reach adjustment handle -2-.
- Turn ignition key to "ignition on".





- Pull out clip -2- for locking cable -3-.
- Remove locking cable out of steering lock -1-.
- Remove selector lever handle.
- Remove center console.





- Lift securing lever -1- in direction of (arrow -A-) and pull locking cable -2- off selector mechanism in direction of (arrow -B-).
- Pull locking cable out of instrument panel.

Installing
^ Do not kink locking cable.
^ Adjust locking cable after installing.

- Pull the pull rod upward and shift selector lever to "P" with pull rod still pulled upward.





- Hang locking cable -2- into locking lever in opposite direction of (arrow -B-) and lock under bracket -1-.





- Insert locking cable into steering column lock -1-.
The flattened side of cable faces downward.
- Install clip -2- for locking cable -3-.
Installation position:
Install clip from above. The angled ends face steering lock.
- Make sure that the clip is seated correctly.
- Check operation of ignition key removal lock.
- Install center console.
- Install selector lever handle.
- Install trim on left under instrument panel.
- Install steering column trim.





- Tighten bolts/screws -1- for height and reach adjustment handle -2-.
- Install airbag unit and steering wheel.
- Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Enter radio code.
- Initialize electric power windows, set correct time on clock.
