Gear Oil In Front Final Drive, Checking
Gear oil in front final drive, checking, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (AWD)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
Drip tray V.A.G. 1306:
Hex ball socket 3247:
Axle oil level is checked with transmission installed.
^ Perform a short test drive so that axle oil warms up.
^ Drive the vehicle onto a 4-column lift or over a work pit so that it is level.
^ Switch off engine and allow 5 minutes for the gear oil to settle back into transmission case.
Vehicles with TDI engine
^ Remove noise insulation for right drive axle from wheel housing - arrows
Continued for all vehicles
^ Place drip tray V.A.G. 1306 underneath.
^ Unscrew sealing plug - arrow -.
Oil level is correct when the front final drive is filled up to lower edge of oil filler hole.
^ Drain off any excess axle oil or top off to proper level.
^ If axle oil must be filled up after repair work, slowly and uniformly fill front final drive over a time period of at least 5 minutes until axle oil escapes at lower edge of oil filler hole.
A filling time of at least 5 minutes is necessary so that oil is distributed evenly in the transmission.
^ Install old sealing plug - arrow -.
^ Perform a short test drive so that axle oil warms up.
^ Check front final drive oil level again.
^ If oil level is correct, seal front final drive using a new sealing plug.
