Transmission, removing, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
Note:
^ In the continuing work procedure, the battery Ground (GND) strap must be disconnected. Therefore, determine whether a coded radio is installed. If necessary, determine anti-theft coding first.
^ Switch ignition off and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
^ Remove engine coolant expansion tank and lay aside.
^ Remove intake manifold cover.
^ Remove intake hose from Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70.
^ Remove intake air scoop, if installed - arrows - and set aside.
^ Remove upper connecting bolts for engine/transmission.
^ Remove front wheels.
^ Remove covers from wheel housings - arrows -.
^ Remove sound insulation pan on bottom of engine/transmission, if installed.
^ If installed, remove bracket for sound insulation pan - arrow -.
^ Remove driveshaft.
^ Removing front exhaust system with catalytic converter.
^ Remove cover plates over right drive axle - arrow 1 - and - arrow 2 -.
^ Remove cover plate, if installed, over left drive axle.
^ Remove drive axles from drive flanges and tie up as far away as possible so that protective coating is not damaged.
Remove shift mechanism from transmission as follows:
^ Remove shift rod - arrow A -.
^ Remove shift rod, to do so remove socket head bolt - arrow B -.
(Depicted here on manual transmission "012"/"01W".)
^ Disconnect connector for Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) G22 - arrow A -.
^ Disconnect connector for back-up lights - arrow B -. Disconnect all other electrical connections and ground wires from transmission and from engine/transmission mounting bolts.
Vehicles with 4-cylinder engine and 6-cylinder engine
^ Remove lower connecting bolts for engine/transmission up to bolts - arrow A - and - arrow B -.
Continued for all vehicles
^ Assemble transmission jack with transmission support 3282, adjustment plate 3282/10 for "012"/01A" transmission and support elements as follows:
^ Place adjustment plate 3282/10 on transmission support 3282 (adjustment plate fits in only one position).
^ Align transmission support arms to correspond with the holes in template.
^ Screw in attachments - A -, as depicted on adjustment plate.
^ Set transmission jack under vehicle, arrow symbol - B - (Fig. V34-2583) on adjustment plate points in direction of travel/vehicle.
^ Align adjustment plate parallel to transmission and lock safety support - arrow - on transmission.
