Axle oil in transfer case, draining and filling after repair, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (AWD)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
Drip tray V.A.G. 1306:
Torque wrench 550 Nm V.A.G. 1331:
^ Drive the vehicle onto a 4-column lift or over a work pit so that it is level.
^ Remove right front exhaust pipe.
Axle oil, draining
^ Place drip tray V.A.G. 1306 underneath.
^ Remove drain plug - arrow A - and drain axle oil.
^ Always replace drain plug.
^ Install new drain plug - arrow A - again.
Axle oil, filling
^ Unscrew sealing plug for checking axle oil - arrow B - and fill with axle oil up to lower edge of hole.
Specification.
^ Install old sealing plug.
If front exhaust system was loosened or removed, it must be secured or installed for the road test. It must be removed and installed again for the final oil level check.
^ Perform a 15 minute road test of steady driving and then check and top off axle oil in transfer case.
It is only sure that the newly filled axle oil has penetrated into the Torsen differential after a road test.
Oil level is correct when the transfer case is filled up to lower edge of oil filler hole.
^ Always replace sealing plug.
^ When oil level is correct, seal transfer case using a new sealing plug - arrow B -.
