ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP Bosch 5.3
From m.y. 2001 Electrical/electronic components and installation locations
1 - ABS hydraulic unit -N55
^ Located on left of engine compartment.
The hydraulic unit consists of:
^ ABS return flow pump -V39
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
^ Valve block (contains the in/outlet valves).
^ The ABS return flow pump -V39- and valve block must not be separated from one another
^ Do not disconnect connector (15 pin) before checking of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). First switch ignition off then separate connector.
2. - Hydraulic pump for traction control -V156-
^ The hydraulic pump for the electronic stabilization program consists of the following components:
^ Sender 1 for brake booster -G201-
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
^ Hydraulic pump for traction control -V156and Sender 1 for brake booster -G201- must not be separated from one another
^ Do not separate 3 pin connector for brake pressure sender and 2 pin connector for hydraulic unit before completing the On Board Diagnostic (OBD). Switch off ignition before separating connections.
3 - Brake system vacuum pump -V192-
^ Not installed in all vehicles
^ Located on left of engine compartment.
^ Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) in engine control module
4 - Brake booster pressure sensor -G294-
^ Not installed in all vehicles
^ Location: in vacuum hose on brake servo
^ Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) in engine control module
5 - ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104-
^ Location: Front passenger's side under floor mat on bulkhead.
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
^ Do not disconnect connector (88 pin) before completing On Board Diagnostic (OBD). Switch off ignition before separating connection.
^ Removing and installing, Refer to, Relays and Modules - Brakes and Traction Control, Electronic Brake Control Module, Service and Repair.
6 - ASR/ESP control lamp -K155-
^ Location: In the instrument cluster
7 - ABS warning light -K47
^ Location: In the instrument cluster
8 - Warning light for brake system -K118-
^ Location: In the instrument cluster
9 - Sensor for transverse acceleration -G200and Sender for rotation rate -G202-
^ Combined in one housing
^ Location: under rear seat
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
^ Observe installation instructions
10 - Steering angle sensor -G85-
^ Location: On steering column between steering wheel and steering column switch.
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS 5051
^ Observe installation, Refer to, Sensors and Switches - Brakes and Traction Control, Steering Angle Sensor,Traction Control, Service and Repair.
11 - Diagnostic connections
^ Location: under driver's side stowage compartment
12 - Brake light switch -F- and brake pedal switch ((cruise control)/ diesel direct fuel Injection -F47-
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
13 - Impulse wheel for right-front and left speed sensors
^ Removing and installing,
14 - Right/left front ABS wheel speed sensor -G45-/-G47-
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
^ Replacing, Refer to, Sensors and Switches - Brakes and Traction Control, Wheel Speed Senor, Service and Repair
15 - Impulse wheel for right-rear and left speed sensors
^ (Figure shows All Wheel Drive (AWD))

16 - Right/left rear ABS wheel speed sensor -G44-/-G46-
(Figure shows all wheel drive (AWD))
^ Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS5051
