Lower control arm, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Ball joint puller 3287 A:




Torque wrench V.A.G 1332:





Difference of control arm with and without bushings Control arm as of model year 2002, modified.

Removing
^ Remove wheel.





^ Remove nut from control arm joint pin and press joint pin out of tapered seat.

Do not damage joint protective boot when doing this!

Vehicles with automatic headlight range control





^ Unclip clamp for coupling rod - 1 - for left front level control system sensor G78 from control arm - 2 -.

Continued for all vehicles





^ Remove hex bolt - 1 -.
^ Remove ribbed nuts - 2 - and - 3 - and take out connecting rod.

Note:
^ To prevent the upper control arm joints from being damaged, support with e.g. V.A.G 1383 A to prevent spring extending too much.

^ Remove hex bolt - 4 -.
^ Remove lower control arm.

Installing
^ Insert control arm.





^ Tighten nut on joint pin.
^ Tighten hex nut - 1 -.
^ Tighten nut - 2 -.
^ Tighten nut - 3 -.
^ Install new hex bolt - 4 - and new hex nut and tighten.

Note:
^ Only use inner holes - arrow -.
^ Push control arm inward while tightening.
^ Arrow on connecting link points forward.

Vehicles with automatic headlight range control

^ Install clamp for connecting rod for left front level control system sensor G78 to control arm.

During installation, observe installation position of clamp on control arm Left front level control system sensor G78 on front axle.

Continued for all vehicles

^ Install wheel and tighten Wheel mounting.
