Clutch system, bleeding
Special tools and equipment
- VAS 5234 or VAG 1869 Brake charge and bleed unit
- For brake fluid specifications:
Refer to Brake fluid, Specification,fluid type
Note: Open bleeder valve before operating bleeder unit.
- Clutch pedal is not operated.
- Connect brake filling and bleeder unit.
- Remove sound insulation below transmission.
Vehicles with 6-cyl. Diesel engine or 8-cyl. injection engine
- Remove cover from left wheel housing.
- Remove left-hand axle shaft protective plate.
- Pull connector off speedometer sensor (arrow).
- Guide brake bleed hose -A- of fluid collection tank (e.g. VAG 1794) between front left exhaust pipe and transmission, and fit onto bleed valve.
Continuation for all vehicles
- Connect brake bleed hose -A- of fluid collection tank (e.g. VAG 1794) to slave cylinder (arrow) and open bleed valve.
- Switch on bleeder unit and let about 100 cm3 brake fluid run out.
Note: Brake fluid must not be allowed to get onto the transmission.
- Depress clutch pedal several times after completion of bleeding process.
