Ribbed Belt Alignment Checking
- If the power steering pump, Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor or the bracket for power steering pump or A/C compressor were replaced, then check the ribbed belt alignment to prevent damage to the ribbed belt:
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Alignment Gauge (3201)
- Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)
Procedure
- Remove the ribbed belt. Service and Repair
- Set the (3201) onto the A/C compressor pulley.
- The A/C compressor pulley must align with the power steering pump pulley.
If the Pulleys Do Not Align
- Remove the power steering pump pulley.
- To loosen the bolts, counter hold the pulley using the retainer (3036).
- Even up the distance of the pulley using spacers of the thicknesses 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, or 1.4 mm.
- Check the ribbed belt alignment again using the (3201).
- Tighten the power steering pulley bolts to 22 Nm.
- Install the ribbed belt. Service and Repair
