Engine Number
Engine Number
The engine number ("engine code" and "serial number ") is located on the cylinder block, below the cylinder head of cylinder bank 2.
The engine number consists of up to nine characters (alphanumeric). The first part (maximum 3 letters) represents the "engine code", the second (six digits) is the "serial number". If more than 999,999 engines with the same engine code are produced, the first of the six characters is replaced with a letter.
In addition, a sticker with the "engine code" and " serial number" is affixed to the acoustic cover of the cylinder head at cylinder bank 1.
The engine code is also included on the vehicle data plate.
Numbering of cylinders begins on the right side - A - as seen in the direction of travel (cylinder bank 1) opposite the power transfer side - C -. Cylinders are counted on each side in sequence.
